Transnational activism has been the focus of a growing body of literature since the 1990s. It is defi ned as cross-border collective action, involving people from two or more countries around specifi c campaigns or longer term movements. Transnational activism takes different forms, from lobbying and advocacy to protests and direct action. It is carried out by small groups, networks, organizations or mass movements. This chapter examines the growth of such activism and references some of the scholarship that it has generated.
